Job Responsibilities

Working under the guidance of the Medical Supervisor, Health Programe Coordinator, and Medical T.A., the Triage Nurse will have the following main duties to ensure patients receive high-quality care:

Patient Management:

• Assessing patients quickly to determine how urgently they need care and assigning them to the appropriate level of priority for treatment.
• Maintaining accurate patient records, including data entry, filing, and retrieval.
• Providing thorough triage and clinical assessments to ensure patients receive safe and suitable care based on their healthcare needs.
• Identifying and isolating suspected cases during outbreaks or epidemics, such as COVID-19 or Measles.
• Performing nursing interventions like first aid to improve patient outcomes and ensure the safety of patients and clinic staff.
• Educating patients and families as needed.
• Sorting patients into priority groups according to established guidelines.
• Transporting patients to the correct treatment areas.
• Updating doctors and nurses on patient statuses.
• Initiating emergency treatment when necessary.
• Managing and communicating with patients in the waiting room.

Responsibilities on Reporting and Meeting Attendance:

• Job responsibility for this position is to Communicating with patient families or designated guardians when necessary.
• Job responsibility for this position is to Respecting patient confidentiality and advocating for their right to choose their care.
• Job responsibility for this position is to Obtaining verbal and written consent from patients when needed.
• Job responsibility for this position is to Providing feedback to medical supervisors or team leaders on triaged/screened cases.
• Job responsibility for this position is to Updating the Medical Supervisor daily on patient management.
• Job responsibility for this position is to Reporting safety and security concerns promptly to the focal person.
• Job responsibility for this position is to Data Collection and Analysis:
• Submitting daily reports to the Medical Supervisor.
• Providing weekly reports to the Medical Supervisor.
• Coordinating with the Monitoring and Evaluation Department for triage data collection when required.

Responsibilities on Meeting Attendance:

• Actively participating in internal meetings at MdM.
• Attending all training sessions organized by MdM and relevant external trainings.

Other Responsibilities:

• Offering suggestions to enhance the functioning of MdM clinics and the referral pathway.
• Being flexible in duties to ensure beneficiaries receive quality services.
• Performing additional duties as requested by the line manager.
• Reporting security issues immediately to the security focal point.
• Due to the emergency relief nature of MdM's work, working hours may vary, and flexibility is expected.
• Working under the supervision of the Medical Supervisor.
• Adhering to Médecins du Monde - France’s schedule and Terms and Conditions of Engagement for National Staff.
• Being available at all times to respond to emergencies and willing to work beyond normal hours if needed.
• This job description may change based on MdM activities or context, subject to mutual consultation to meet program requirements.

Job Requirements Specifications:

• Interested candidate must be Qualified Nurse with at least 2 years of experience post-qualification.
• Interested candidate must be Proficient in Hausa, Kanuri, and English.
• Interested candidate must be Excellent communication and networking abilities.
• Interested candidate must be Proficient in patient resuscitation.
• Interested candidate must be Previous experience as a triage nurse is preferred.
• Interested candidate must be Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Interested candidate must beStrong dedication to humanitarian work.
