Borno Governor Zulum Honors VP Kashim Shettima with Housing Estate Naming

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has renamed the 72 Metro Housing Estate in Maiduguri after Vice President Kashim Shettima. In a ceremony held at the former Police Ground, Governor Zulum also named the Njimtilo 500 Housing Units after Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, recognizing their exemplary leadership and commitment to regional development.

Governor Zulum described the projects as milestones in Borno State's efforts to provide affordable housing, enhance infrastructure, and stimulate economic growth. He emphasized the allocation of the Kashim Shettima Housing Estate to military officers, security personnel, and federal workers, addressing housing challenges in the region.

Additionally, the governor announced that 210 houses from the Njimtilo 500 Housing Units will be allocated to police officers currently residing in the Metro Police Barracks. This move paves the way for the construction of a state-of-the-art International Conference Centre on the vacated site.

In a further gesture of appreciation for local leadership, the Shehu Sanda Kura Road has been renamed after the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi.

Infrastructure Projects to Transform Borno State

Highlighting his administration's urban renewal efforts, Governor Zulum pointed to several transformative projects. The dualization of Shehu Sanda Kura Road, Njimtilo Housing Units, Metro Housing Estate, and the Borno Express Flyover were identified as key initiatives to improve residents’ quality of life, boost economic activity, and ease traffic congestion. He described the Borno Express Flyover as a landmark structure designed to revolutionize transportation in the state.

Collaboration and Regional Recovery Efforts

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was present at the event, expressed gratitude for the recognition and praised Borno’s commitment to recovery and development. Governor Buni acknowledged the shared cultural and historical ties between Borno and Yobe States, emphasizing their collaborative efforts to rebuild after the Boko Haram insurgency.

Buni highlighted his administration's investments in education, healthcare, agriculture, and economic empowerment. These include a multi-billion-naira agricultural program and a N2.93 billion initiative supporting vulnerable groups and small businesses. He commended Governor Zulum for assembling a capable team to deliver impactful projects and encouraged Borno residents to embrace these advancements.
